What is Music Performance : Piano?
All DMA programs consist of performance requirements (lessons, two solo recitals, one lecture recital and one chamber recital), and coursework in the following areas: performance preparation, historical perspective, and a cognate field. Further requirements: comprehensive written and oral examinaitons in the major area, and one of the following capstones: scholarly document, doctoral project or advanced coursework with accompanying documents. Program Capstone
May be filled by one of the following (2 credit hours required in the appropriate course) • A scholarly document, supervised by the faculty. The topic requires approval of the Thesis Committee. • Three courses (9 credits hours) of upper level Music History (8000 level typically "advanced topics" courses) which require extensive term papers. Requires student to have attained a minimum grade of “B” in Doctoral Research and Writing or its equivalent. Student must also declare, to the instructor, the intent of writing a 25 page scholarly paper at the beginning of the upper level history courses. • A specialized project relevant to the major or cognate area. The project requires approval by area faculty, the Division Head, and the CCM Director of Graduate Studies |
