Arts Administration International Graduate Programs
Description of the Program
MBA/MA students have the opportunity to participate in the College of Business International Graduate Program in the second year of study. This program offers students short-term experiences at partner universities overseas, with a duration ranging from 6 to 10 days abroad. Programs are led by University of Cincinnati faculty and consist of company visits, lectures, presentations, and sightseeing. Topics covered during the program include understanding foreign business cultures and business relationships with the U.S. Participation in the International Program fulfills the 4 credit hour Business Elective course requirement for MBA/MA students. Mandatory program meetings occur in the quarter prior to travel. Activities relevant to the field of arts administration are scheduled specifically for MBA/MA students.
The International Programs office coordinates the travel experience, to include booking hotels, arranging in-country group transportation to company visits and a welcome dinner, and conducting a pre-departure orientation.
How to Apply
Participation in the International Graduate Program has an academic prerequisite of 32 hours of graduate coursework. In order to register for the program, students submit an application and deposit to the International Programs office.
Financial Concerns
Students pay a deposit and program fee that covers accommodations, some meals, transportation, and admission into all activities. Students are responsible for paying for their own passports, airfare, some meals, and other expenses. The University of Cincinnati International Programs Department offers graduate students the opportunity to apply for a Globalization Grant. Globalization Grants are awarded based on merit and financial need.
Past Arts Administration Student Experiences
“The European priority on art and culture is made obvious in everything from the preservation of their architecture to the full houses at performances. The trip to Austria and the Czech Republic emphasized the greater import other cultures give to culture.”
Marcus Glasgow, Class of 2007
“The school of business provided us with an unparalleled opportunity. We gained a greater understanding of corporations, arts organizations, and the culture of both Austria and the Czech Republic. And to top it off it was also fun!”
Kaye Oberhausen, Class of 2007
"Participating in the UC College of Business study abroad program was an eye-opening experience for me. I had visited Europe before and had studied abroad in undergrad, but most of my experiences had been tourism-based. It was great to have the chance to get more in-depth with the cultures of Austria and the Czech Republic. The company visits gave me so much more insight about the people and the culture than I would have gotten otherwise. We were hosted by each company with such kindness, I felt very privileged.
We also had some wonderful opportunities to experience arts organizations in Austria. Those visits were of great interest to us Arts Administration MBAs because it gave us a chance to compare how cultural organizations are funded and managed in Europe to how they are managed in the US."
Genevieve Miller, Class of 2007
"The international trip made it possible to combine our arts administration and business training as we toured cultural and commercial organizations, connected with arts and corporate leaders, and explored the interaction of all of those entities."
