CCM Ballet Ensemble
Andre Megerdichian, director

The Patricia Corbett Theater springs to life December 4-6 as the CCM Ballet Ensemble launches its 51st season of outstanding performances. Featuring works from classical to contemporary, the program promises to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.

Beginning the performance will be the thrilling Pas De Deux from the enduring classical ballet Le Corsaire, originally choreographed by Marius Petipa. Dierdre Carberry, former American Ballet Theater Ballerina and current CCM Associate Professor of Dance, will stage the piece. Stunning costumes and breathtaking leaps and turns highlight the romantic theme of the performance and serve as a tribute to the Imperial Russian Ballet.

Next up is the world premiere of a new collaboration entitled Night’s Daughters. Choreographed by CCM Assistant Professor of Dance Andre Megerdichian, the piece utilizes the creative talents of artists from the CCM Departments of Dance, Drama, Music and Theatre Production, to create a cascade of visual and audio imagery portraying a psychological journey of self-betrayal and redemption.

In a more light hearted vein, guest choreographer and Artistic Director of Dance NOW! Miami, Diego Salterini, will choreograph a world premiere showcasing the talent of the CCM Dancers in a fresh, upbeat jazz ballet, guaranteed to bring a smile to our audiences.

The program concludes with a revival of the 1998 iconoGlass, by David Hochoy, former Martha Graham principal dancer and current Artistic Director of Indianapolis’ Dance Kaleidoscope. iconoGlass is inspired by the relentless pulse found in the music of Phillip Glass and is filled with a series of musical movements in which the various landscapes are both explored and created by the dancers’ shapes, speed and patterns of movement. The piece uses the Graham method of contraction and attack, which is a metaphor for her favorite quote: “We have so little time to be born to the instant.”
