Piotr Szewczyk's "American Dreams"

Piotr Szewczyk's American Dreams: A Journey for Orchestra was commissioned by the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and Director of Orchestral Studies Mark Gibson for the Sept. 9 opening concert of the 2016 Polish Festival.

A Note from the Composer

In this seven-minute-long piece, I portray my personal musical journey from Poland to America; what fascinated me about American music when I was growing up in Poland, and how it has influenced me since I have been living here. It is written from my perspective of living in America for over 20 years, but remaining connected to my Polish heritage — melding together both elements. You will hear a changing musical landscape, painting all the powerful feelings, emotions, hopes and dreams I experienced in my journey from Poland to America — my own American Dreams.
