John Hebbeler is a musician, exploring areas of digital media; fusing elements of sound, video and web production with computer technology.  As an Assistant Profesor he teaches a range of courses that include studio production, digital audio production, advanced studio prodution, integrated media production and special topics and honors courses.

During his graduate studies at IUPUI, Professor Hebbeler created interactive trans-media compositions that integrate iPhone and Wii remote technology into live audio and visual performances.  His work includes the development of computer-based applications for iPhone, iPod, and iPad mobile media devices that use Open Sound Control programming and accelerometer technology to fuse aspects of composition, production, and performance. His original compositions have been distributed by Spotify, iTunes (US, Japan), Amazon, Rhapsody, eMusic, Zune, Tradebit and Last.fm.
 
Over the past decade, Professor Hebbler has extensively worked in music technology for clients that include the World Association of Symphonic Bands, The International Tuba and Euphonium Association, The United States Jazz Ambassadors, The BBC, The Cincinnati Opera, and more. Currently Professor Hebbeler is collaborating with Assistant Professor Emily Verba (DAAP) in developing an iPhone application that allows users to control sounds and visuals in media rich environments.  Collaborators, Dr. Hazem Said (CECH) , Dr. Meera Rastogi (Psychology) and Assistant Professor Jill Gomez (Ayurveda Health) are involved in the project.

  • International Education Conference (Presenter and Author) “Modes, Technology, and Collaboration” – In a fast paced society, how can technology be beneficial for calming one’s mind? What importance can sound and visuals play in an ongoing rich media environment? When effective collaboration takes place and outcomes can be tested and refined, research proves the effects that sound and visuals have on stress reduction in users.   • Broadcast Education Association Conference (Presenter and Author) “Digitizing the Classroom for the Online Environment” - The focus of this presentation covered the conversion and application of a traditional media production course to an online class. Topics included the process involved in converting the traditional classroom experience to an online environment, effectively presenting information to users in the online environment, evaluation of digital media projects, and digital tools that enhance the online pedagogy. This presentation was part of an accepted peer-reviewed panel presentation at the BEA national conference in Las Vegas, NV in April. (2015)..
  • Broadcast Education Association Conference (Presenter and Author) Online Experience and Engagement of the User” – This presentation covered the process involved in delivering media rich content and the software and hardware involved in the process. Topics focused on the accessibility of content and how it is delivered, the media rich content involved in the online experience, and the engagement of the user.
