In the Electronic Media Division, Peter DePietro teaches New Media Studio I, II, and III, Digital Core, and special topics courses: Electronic Game Design, and Media Convergence Lab. He previously taught interactive communications at Quinnipiac University, and new media and digital arts at New York University, New School University's Parsons School of Design, and Pratt Institute.
As director of interactive media and online creative in New York City, Professor DePietro has led new media initiatives, such as interactive development and digital media design, for Madison Avenue agencies and Silicon Alley corporations. He has developed Internet-based projects and websites for Fortune 100 companies, top-tier universities, entertainment companies, and celebrities: including Dell, Western Union, Motorola, Omnicom, Hasbro, New York University, and Al Roker Entertainment.
Professor DePietro has served as the first Director of Digital and New Media of the William J. Clinton Foundation, based in New York City, where he oversaw the design and development of online properties and implemented digital technologies to support the missions of both the Foundation and the Clinton Presidential Center (in Little Rock): focusing on worldwide issues including global climate change, health security and economic empowerment. As Director, he redeveloped the Clinton Presidential Center website, which won Best in Class (Museum Category) at the Interactive Media Awards.
Professor DePietro has had installations and exhibits featured in major galleries throughout the country, including his media convergence work A Matter of Time at the Art Interactive Gallery in Boston, Dustscape at Gallery 61 in New York City, id/Interactive Domain also in New York City, and selected digital works at the Idea Festival in Louisville.
Professor DePietro is Associate Editor of the International Journal of Technology, Knowledge and Society. He is author of numerous publications and presentations, including Transforming Education with New Media, and Technology and Design: Partners in the Evolution of Creativity, both published in the International Journal of Technology, Knowledge and Society, as well as New Eyes on the Virtual World: Engaging the User, Your Place on the Internet, and The Interactive Element: Integrating Digital Technology, Virtual Content and Creative Vision, presented at the Interface Conference in Dublin, Ireland.
His reviews of books about new media and digital arts are published in The Art Book, including Digital Storytelling: The Narrative Power of Visual Effects in Film, and Game Story and Character Development/Developing Serious Games.
An award-winning playwright/director with nine plays published by Samuel French, Inc., Professor DePietro also was Producing Artistic Director of Manhattan Rep Company in New York City, where he was a pioneer of interactive theatre.
Peter DePietro holds an M.P.S. from New York University's Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) in Tisch School of the Arts, and a B.S. in Telecommunications from Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Public Communications.
Professor DePietro was one of the speakers in a new annual series, Life of the Mind, that features innovative thinkers on UC’s campus.
