Computer Requirements for E-Media Students

macbook pro

Incoming E-Media students and their parents may be ready to buy their MacBook Pros.  Since 2006 a MacBook Pro has been a requirement for our students.

Our Integrated Media Production courses will teach incoming students the skills they'll need to make the most out of this investment.

Despite the added expense, we've heard few complaints.  Instead students say, "Once you go Mac, you never go back."

For the class entering in 2012, there are several E-Media" computer options.  You can choose any of the options, ranging from the adequate 13 inch laptop to the recommended 15 to 17 inch models.

Visit the Apple Store online for additional details and specifications.

In addition to the software already installed on the computer, we have the following recommendations:

  • For Integrated Media Production 1 (fall semester), it is recommended that students have the Adobe Creative Suite CS4.  Either the Design Premium or the Web Premium version.
  • For Integrated Media Production 2 (spring semester), it is required that students have the Adobe Creative Suite CS4.  Either the Design Premium or the Web Premium version.
  • The Adobe Create Suite is available at student discounts from the University of Cincinnati bookstore and other official academic vendors.

Update:  Apple is now selling Creative Suite CS5. This is the update of CS4 and is recommended by our faculty, though we have CS4 in our labs. The difference between the two versions is minimal.  You may also be asked whether you want the production, design or web bundle. The design, web or master collection bundle will suffice for Integrated Media 1 and 2. But if you think you'll want to take advanced new media classes, we recommend either the web or master collection bundle and the 15 t0 17 inch laptops.
