Kevin Burke: Hollywood Experience

It’s off to L.A. for E-Media Professor Kevin Burke, who will spend a week behind the scenes of major television studios and production companies.

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences selected Professor Burke as a faculty fellow for the Academy Foundation’s Faculty Seminar to be held in Los Angeles November 8-13.

Professor Burke will get an inside look at primetime television entertainment through presentations and interaction with industry professionals.

There will be sessions covering the role of writers and producers, the similarities and differences of directors working in different genres, digital entertainment and new media and more.

Last year’s seminar included panelists from such hits as Mad Men, Grey’s Anatomy and Dexter and participants in this year’s gathering will be equally prominent. Professor Burke will also have the opportunity to experience the industry firsthand by attending production meetings and observing production on set.

“I commend the Academy for providing faculty such extraordinary opportunity to gain insight into the industry and enhance our pedagogy in a way that better serves our students, the practitioners of tomorrow,” said Professor Burke.

Professor Burke has taught courses in television, video and film production and post-production in the E-Media Division since 1996. He has won many awards for his video work, most recently a best of competition award from the Broadcast Education Association. Two of his video production students won the Academy’s College Television Award in 2009.
