Freshmen entering the E-Media Division this year will, for the first time, be part of a Learning Community.

Learning Communities  were established at UC as part of the First Year Experience. CCM’s drama and dance programs have also started Learning Communities for freshmen entering this fall.

At orientation on June 30, E-Media’s entering freshmen will be assigned to one of two learning communities.  Members of both learning communities will take the same courses each quarter freshman year.  In the fall they will be enrolled in English Composition 1, Digital Core 1, History of Art 1, and Introduction to Microeconomics and Introduction to the E-Media Division.

Freshmen will be able to select an additional course to bring their load up to 16 credit hours.

“We decided to join the learning communities because this will enhance the freshmen’s introduction to the college experience.  It will create a small community for them within this huge university.   It also enables our freshmen to enroll in Arts and Science classes that might otherwise be closed to them,” said E-Media Division Head Marjorie Fox.

Professor Fox and Susmita Saha, CCM’s Academic Advisor will answer questions about the Learning Communities at orientation on June 30.
