Emedia Minor

The E-Media Division will start offering a minor to University of Cincinnati students starting in September 2012.  Admission to the program is selective.  Applications may be submitted between December 12, 2011 and February 4, 2012.

“Students have always wanted to take our classes and we think our curriculum will be helpful to a wider range of students.  Digital media are important in many career fields,” said Marjorie Fox, Head of the Electronic Media Division.

With the start of semesters, E-Media majors will be required to have a minor and the E-Media division wants to offer the same opportunity to students in other programs at UC. The faculty foresees mostly journalism, communication and business majors applying for the E-Media minor. They also hope students within the College-Conservatory of Music will decide to minor in E-Media to learn the media tools they need to promote themselves.

The E-Media division is hoping to strengthen ties with other colleges at UC as well as other students in CCM. Adding this new aspect to the program is also a source of revenue for CCM.

The division intends to accept only 10 students for the 18 credit minor this year. The six courses minor students will take are three core classes and three electives.

To ensure major and minor students get the classes they need in a timely manner, more sections of selected courses will be added. The E-Media Division is also hoping to bring a new faculty member on board to accommodate more minor students. Adding a minor to the program will in no way adversely affect E-Media majors, Professor Fox said.
