Dr. Manfred Wolfram

Manfred K. Wolfram Ph.D.

CREDENTIALS: BA, MA, University of Illinois; MA, California State University, San Francisco; Ph.D. University of Califirnia, Berkeley; Professor and Head of the Electronic Media Division of the University of Cincinnati from 1986-2009.

BIO: Dr. Wolfram is a member of the Broadcast Education Association and the Muenchner Kreis (Munich Circle), a Supranational Association of Communications Research.

In 1984, he was a Visiting Professor at the University of Fribourg, Institute for Journalism and Mass Communication in Switzerland. In 1997, he taught again in Europe at the Institute for Communication Science at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, Germany. Dr. Wolfram's research interests include the subjects of Media Aesthetics, Global Communication Networks, and Policy and Regulatory Issues as they arise from emerging media technologies. Claudia Linnhoff-Popien

Claudia Linnhoff-Popien Ph.D.
BIO: Prof. Dr. Claudia Linnhoff- Popien is full professor for Mobile and Distributed Systems at the Ludwig Maximilians University Munich, Institute for Informatics.

She finished her Ph.D. thesis at the Technical University of Aachen, Unit for Communication Systems in 1994 and gave different lectures at the University  GH Essen, 1995-97. In 1997 she was a research visitor Applied Research Institute of the Washington University of St. Louis, Missouri, USA. In 1998, she finished her habilitation at the Technical University Aachen and got a professorship at the Ludwig Maximilians University Munich.

She is author/ editor of 13 books and has published furthermore about 70 journal articles, book chapters and conference papers. She is member of about 50 program committees of internaction workshops and conferences organized by IFIP, ACM, IEEE, German Society of Computer Science and other organizations. Furthermore, she is reviewer for several German scientific institutions.

Her research interests include the following topics: distributed systems and ubiquitous computing, mobility, service discovery and context awareness. In these areas she works on several research projects supported by industry and government.

 

Thomas Hess

Thomas Hess Ph.D.
BIO: Prof. Dr. Thomas Hess is Dean and Professor for Management and Information Systems at the Munich School of Management, Ludwig Maximilians University Munich, Germany, since October 2001. He is also director of the Institute for Information Systems and New Media at the same school, coordinator of the "Center for Internet Research and Media Intergration (CIM)" and member of the Board of the "Center for digital Technology and the Management (CDTM)", both located in Munich.

Prof. Hess was born in Darmstadt, Germany. He studied at the Darmstadt  University of Technilogy (Diploma in Information Systems) and at the St. Gallen University, Switzerland (Doctorate in Management). He worked as post-doc at Goettingen University, Germany and was visiting professor at the Nanyang University, Singapore and at the Turku School of Economics and Business Administration, Finland. Prof. Hess has also professional experiences as a managment consultant, as a member of supervising boards, as a founder and as an assistant to the board of Bertelsmann AG.

His research interests include the impact of digital technologies on the media industry and management system, the economics of information systems and media management. He is the author of 10 booms and over 150 articles. Additionally, he is editor or editorial board member of four journals including "International Journal of Media Management" and the German "Journal of Controliing and Management".

Pro. Dr. Hans- Bernd Brosius

Hans- Bernd Brosius Ph.D.
BIO: ProfDr. Hand- Bernd Brosius born 1957, 1976 to 1980 study of psycology, philosophy, education science and medicine at the Westfalische Wilhelms Universitat in Munster. Professor since 1996 and as of October 2001, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

In 1983 promotion with a dessertation on eye movements and information processing. In 1983 to 1988 research fellow at the Insitut for Publizistik at the Unversitat Mainz. In 1994 secondary dissertation (Habilitation). Since May 1995 director of the Media Institute at Ludwigshafen. In Aprill 1996 occupational change to Munich at the Institute, initially as Associate Professor for Empirical Communication Science. From 1997 to 1998 head of the executive committee of the Institute. From 1998 to 2002 chairman of the Deutsche Gesselshaft for Publizistik and Kommunikationswissenschaft (DGPuK).

His courses deal with media contents use and effect of mass media, political communication and media psyhcology. In addition, one focal point is methodology. Brosius' main concern here is the academic ideal of unity of research and teaching. Students should lear to try out scientific method more easily. Numerous publications in German and American journals, 15 books, over a hundred papers in professional journals and contributions to books.

Dr. Hannelore G. Wolfram

Hannelore G. Wolfram Ph.D.

CREDENTIALS:  Sorbonne, Paris, France, Undergraduate Language Studies; BA, MA University of California, Berkeley; Ph.D. University of Texas, Austin

BIO:  Professor Dr. Wolfram taught German, French, and English Language and Literature at various levels at the following institutions:  University of California, Berkeley; Defense Language Institute, Monterey, California; The University of Texas, Austin; Trinity University, San Antonio, Texas; The University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio; and Northern Kentucky University, Highland Heights, Kentucky.

Dr. Wolfram also served as chair of the foreign language program at Summit Country Day in Cincinnati, Ohio.  She translated various scripts from German into English and vice versa; and in 1980, she co-authored the award winning script for the video production of "Woyzeck" aired on PBS, Austin, Texas.

Dr Wolfram also had an extensive career as a business manager in the private sector in the Bay area of San Francisco, California.
