CCM is honored to host its first annual “Essentially Ellington Festival” (sponsored by Wynton Marsalis’s Jazz at Lincoln Center)—a daylong event featuring the region’s top high school jazz ensembles. The gala concert will feature the competition’s Outstanding Ensemble winner as opening act, with the CCM Jazz Orchestra following with a performance featuring a very special guest from the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

CCM Jazz Orchestra and Chorale and Central State University Gospel Choir

Commissioned to celebrate the 2008 bicentennial of Harlem’s Abyssinian Baptist Church, Marsalis’s Mass is a landmark collaboration of jazz, gospel, instrumentals and vocals with “hand-clappin’” and “tambourine-slappin’,” reflecting the form of the African American church service.
