Tyler Bentley

Tyler is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Music degree in the areas of Trombone Performance and Music Composition. He studies with Tim Anderson and Mara Helmuth, respectively. Tyler graduated from Highland High School, in the beautiful city of Anderson, IN. Tyler's compositional interests include electronic and acoustic music, with which he plans to nourish the body that is trombone repertoire.

Ben Clymer                                                                                
Ben, a native of Asheville, NC is a second year Artist Diploma student studying bass trombone. He is the trombone teaching assistant for professor Tim Anderson for the 2012-2013 school year. He completed a Masters in Music from CCM in 2011. Ben graduated from Mars Hill College where he studied with Dr. James Sparrow and completed bachelor degrees in both music education and trombone performance. He was a teaching assistant at North Buncombe High School in 2008-09. Ben has performed with the Dayton Philharmonic/Opera, Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, Kentucky Symphony Orchestra and Asheville Symphony Orchestra. Ben regularly performs as a member of Richmond Symphony Orchestra (IN), and Lima Symphony Orchestra. In the summer of 2012 he was selected to participate in the Michael Mulcahy Seminar at Northwestern University. His primary teachers are James Sparrow, Tim Anderson, and Peter Norton.

Nicole Hillis

Nikki is a freshman at the Cincinnati College- Conservatory of music. She is from Charleston, South Carolina where she studied trombone with Kate Jenkins, a member of Charleston Symphony Orchestra. In high school, Nikki was a member of SCBDA all-state band, as well as the all-state orchestra. She participated in Honor Band of America for two years and attended Brevard Summer Music Festival the summer of 2011. In addition, she also played in the pit for several shows for the Footlight Players in downtown Charleston.


Dan Kolan

Dan Kolan from Columbus, Ohio, is pursuing his Masters of Music degree from University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Professor Timothy Anderson. Dan began to foster his interest in music while growing up in Pittsburgh, PA when he began playing organ for church services during the 1st and 2nd grades. After moving to Columbus, OH in 2006, he was presented with a wealth of opportunity to perform and began considering pursuing music as a career and lifestyle. Dan pursued and attained his Bachelor's of Music in trombone performance from Indiana Unversity's Jacobs School of Music where he studied primarily with Professor Peter Ellefson, as well as with Professors Carl Lenthe and Merlin Dee Stewart. While at IU he obtained experience within a wide variety of ensembles. Dan can attribute much of his success to his musical mentors: Charlie Doherty, Ryan Hamilton, Todd Stoll, Vaughn Wiester, Michael Spiro, David Baker, Brent Wallarab and Peter Ellefson. When Dan is not up to his ears in music, he enjoys computer coding, supporting open-source software and watching hockey.


Benjamin Loyer

Ben is from the quaint town of Saint Marys, Ohio. Though from the country, he grew up in the suburbs of Cincinnati and went through the great school of Colerain. He began playing the greatest instrument in the world in the fifth grade and in 2010 decided to take his talents to clifton and major in Music Education at the fantastic institution of CCM . He will be working on finishing his junior year as well as interning with Jr. CYWE to improve his educational abilities. In the summer he can be found at his grandparents tending to his herd of angus show cattle if not practicing.


Alex McCoy

Alex comes from Xenia, Ohio and is a Freshman pursuing a Music Education Degree. He has performed in ensembles such as the Honor Band of America, the OMEA Southwest Regional Orchestra, the Dayton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, the Ohio University Honor Band, and attended the Interlochen Summer Trombone Institute. Alex also placed first in the Student Trombone Solo Division held by the Wright State University Low Brass Festival. Alex attended Xenia High School, studying primarily with Dr. Gretchen McNamara, Professor of Trombone at Wright State University.


Jacob Niederman

Jacob is currently a sophomore studying trombone performance with Tim Anderson. He grew up on a farm in West Chester, Ohio where he graduated from Lakota East High School. While in high school he played in the concert bands, jazz bands, jazz combos, pep bands and marching bands. He has participated in numerous district honor bands, all state honor ensembles, the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra, the CCM Prep Department Brass Choir and Southwest Regional Orchestra. He spent his summers of 2010 and 2012 with the Blue Stars World Class Drum and Bugle Corps. His teachers have included Tom VanMilligen and Pete Norton.

Aaron Recchia

Aaron is in his first year of master's studies at CCM and is studying under Pete Norton. He was born and grew up in St. Clair Shores, Michigan before going to Ypsilanti, Michigan for his undergraduate studies at Eastern Michigan University. At EMU, under the tutelage of Don Babcock, he was apart of the Trombone Choir, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and Orchestra. He has also studied under Bryan Pokorney and has subbed with the Ypsilanti Symphony Orchestra and the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra.

John Renfroe

John Renfroe is a current Doctoral student from Fort Myers, Florida. He received his Undergraduate Degree in Trombone Performance from Florida State University and his Master's Degree in Performance from the University of South Florida. He has performed with multiple orchestras in the state of Florida, including the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra in Ft. Myers, the Sinfonia Gulf Coast Orchestra in Destin, and the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra. He has studied with Dr. John Drew, Tom Brantley, and Peter Norton.


Melanie Richardson

Melanie is a sophomore Music Education student. She has been playing trombone since I was 11, which is when the trombone was taller than her! Mel is from Columbus, OH and outside of playing trombone, She enjoy being part of a vibrant campus at UC.


Michael Ritchie

Michael was born and raised in Lafayette, Indiana.  He is currently pursuing a doctorate in trombone performance, with a cognate in music education, at the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati Ohio.  He holds degrees from Butler University (BM trombone performance) and Bowling Green State University (MM trombone performance).  As a trombonist he has performed the Mozart Requiem with Stanley Derusha and the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra of Indianapolis, Indiana.  Along with orchestral performances, his experience in commercial music performance includes artists such as Marie Osmond and Jerry Lewis.  His principal teachers include Timothy Anderson, Jared Rodin, William Mathis, and Garth Simmons principal trombonist for the Toledo Symphony Orchestra.  For several years he has taught students of all levels, created his own private studio, and has taught at Saint Joseph's College, Wabash College, and Purdue University.  When he is not busy with his music career he enjoys all things culinary, fishing, and an intense enjoyment of golf. 


Steve Shin

Born and raised in the suburbs of Washington D.C., Steve Shin has been surrounded by culture and music his whole life. Starting with piano at the age of 7 and then picking up trombone at the age of 10, music had become a part of him After some guidance from Michael Wheeler(retired bass trombone, air force band) he picked up the bass trombone and never looked back since. After high school he chose to continue on with his musical career and enrolled as a music performance major at West Virginia University studying under Dr. H. Keith Jackson. Currently a second year Master of Music student at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music studying under Pete Norton(bass trombone, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra), he has performed with a majority of the ensembles at CCM. He has also played with the Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra, Mon River Big Band, Kentucky Symphony Orchestra and performs extensively with his quintet Brass Without Borders.


Maggie Vetter

Maggie Vetter is a freshman undergraduate pursuing a degree in music education. She is from Cincinnati, and hopes to one day teach either middle school or high school instrumental band. Throughout high school, Maggie participated in various ensembles in the Greater Cincinnati area: the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra, the Cincinnati Youth Brass Choir, and the Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble are just a few. She was also a member of the 2012 Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps who with she spent the summer traveling the Midwest performing at numerous events. Maggie is currently studying with Tim Anderson and previously took from Pete Norton.
