Andrew Broadwater

Andrew has written or arranged over 100 pieces of music of various genre.
Andrew plays violin, viola, piano, electric bass, steel drum lead, and the family of recorders.

Mr. Broadwater has been a member of the Maryland All-State Orchestra (viola, 3yrs.), and is a 4-time winner of the PTA Reflections awards, including the 2003 Maryland State Award of Excellence for Rising from the Ashes (Fantasia), a piano ensemble.

He has been co-principal (viola) for Baltimore County’s All-Honors Orchestra, and for
the Side-by-Side Orchestra which has played with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

Under the direction of James Wharton (Catonsville High) Andrew participates in string orchestra (principal viola), jazz band (pianist), and steel drum band (lead drum). The 20-piece Catonsville Steel Drum Band has produced several CD’s, and Andrew’s composition, Trinidad Trouble has been a favorite selection performed by the band.

Andrew composes and arranges for Grace Presbyterian Church (Relay, MD). Let All Things Now Living and For All the Saints (6-part recorder arrangements) have been well received; and his composition Largo (string quartet) has served as a wedding processional.

Since middle school Andrew has played viola with The 8th Notes (a string quartet). He studied music at Sudbrook Magnet Middle School and is completing 10th grade at Catonsville High School.

Andrew has been a student of Jennifer Rende (principal viola: Baltimore Opera, and Concert Artists of Baltimore); Ron Smith (violin/viola, Univ. of Colorado); Colleen Oren (piano, Suzuki); and James Carothers (recorder).

He is a twin and the youngest of four brothers. He and his family live in Catonsville, Maryland.

Andrew is thankful for his parents’ continued support. He especially thanks those who have made possible Music03 & Accent03, for providing a program that inspires young musicians and composers.
