David Schneider is a doctoral student in composition at Indiana University. Originally from California, David received a Bachelor of Music degree in composition from the University of Southern California, graduating summa cum laude in 2002. He received a Master of Music degree from Indiana University in 2004. His teachers have included P.Q. Phan, Richard Wernick, Sven-David Sandstrom, Claude Baker, Stephen Hartke, Donald Crockett, Frank Ticheli, and Miguel del Aguila. In the summer of 2003, David attended the Brevard Music Festival in North Carolina, where he studied with Bright Sheng, Gunther Schuller, and Claude Baker. In January 2003, David appeared as piano soloist with the New West Symphony in California for two performances of his piece Caliente. The piece was also broadcast on the radio station KMZT in Los Angeles in 2004. David's choral piece Catullan Epigrams received the Indiana University Contemporary Vocal Ensemble Award in 2002 and was subsequently premiered by that group. O Colonia, the second movement of Catullan Epigrams, won the 8th Annual Cambridge Madrigal Singers' Composition Competition and received two performances in the Boston area in May 2006.
