Duccio Ceccanti

DUCCIO CECCANTI, born into a family of musicians in 1974, began violin studies at age 5 under the guidance of his father. He received his diploma at the "Luigi Cherubini" Conservatory in Florence, Italy as a student of Andrea Tacchi.

Ceccanti continued his studies at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, working with Uto Ughi, Boris Belkin, Riccardo Brengola and Alain Meunier. At the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole he participated in the chamber music courses of the Trio di Trieste and the Trio di Milano. He pursued further violin studies with Stefan Gheorghiu, Felix Andriewski and Salvatore Accardo.

As soloist and chamber musician, Duccio Ceccanti has performed in festivals and series such as: the Venice Biennale, Teatro Massimo of Palermo, Teatro San Carlo of Naples, Accademia Filarmonica in Rome, Teatro Comunale of Bologna, Teatro Goldoni of Livorno, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro della Pergola of Florence, Auditorium of Milano, Associazione Alessandro Scarlatti in Naples, "Settimana Musicale Senese" in Siena, Amici della Musica in Vicenza, Ancona and Palermo, Societŕ del Quartetto of Vercelli, Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte in Montepulciano, Campus internazionale di musica in Latina, Estate Musicale Fiesolana, Centro Busoni of Empoli, Teatro Metastasio of Prato, "Mittelfest" di Cividale del Friuli, Sorrento Festival, International Festival of Prague, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Festival of Patras, Auditorium of the Swiss Radio in Lugano, "Flaneries Musicales d'été" in Reims, Festival of Lyon, Festival of Tirana, Opera Theater of Cairo, Teatro Coliseo of Buenos Aires, Teatro Municipal of Santiago, Sala Vaz Ferreira of Montevideo, and Canal da Musica of Curitiba among others. Ceccanti has also toured France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Brasil, Argentina, Chile and Uruguay.

Duccio Ceccanti has given first performances of many solo and chamber works by composers such as Bussotti, Sotelo, Maxwell Davies, Corghi, Petrassi, Berio, Clementi and Vacchi.

Recordings include Schoenberg’s "Pierrot Lunaire" (Contempoartensemble) and the String Trio (Trio Artes ) on the ARTS label, the complete violin and piano works of Dallapiccola for Naxos and a CD of Chopin’s chamber music on the Brilliant label. Current CD projects include works of Maxwell Davies, Maderna and Vacchi.

Ceccanti is the first violinist of Contempoartensemble and Ensemble Strumentale of the Accademia Chigiana in Siena.

With the Italian Chamber Orchestra (founded by Salvatore Accordo) Ceccanti has recorded for EMI, FONE', e FONIT CETRA and has participated in tours of Italy, Germany, South America, China, Japan and the US.

From 2002 to 2005, Ceccanti was the concertmaster of the Orchestra Sinfonica del Friuli Venezia Giulia; in 2006 he was the concertmaster of the Orchestra di Roma e del Lazio. Currently he is a first violinist in the Orchestra della Toscana (Florence). He is also a member of the new music ensemble of the Accademia Chigiana in Siena.
