
Michael J. Maccaferri
Clarinet
Clarinetist Michael J. Maccaferri has performed throughout the United States and
abroad as a founding member of eighth blackbird, earning top awards at the Walter
W. Naumburg Competition, the Fischoff Competition and Concert Artists Guild
International Competition.
A dedicated teacher and performer, he has led numerous masterclasses and clinics
around the country. He holds faculty positions at the University of Richmond,
University of Chicago and the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra.
As a soloist, he has recently performed Ralph Shapey's Clarinet Concerto with
the Chicago Contemporary Chamber Players and will serve as bass clarinetist in
the 2006 Cabrillo Festival Orchestra.
Mr. Maccaferri has studied at the Oberlin Conservatory, Cincinnati
College-Conservatory of Music and Northwestern University with such renowned
pedagogues and performers as Lawrence McDonald, J. Lawrie Bloom, Richard Hawkins,
Ronald deKant and Caroline Hartig.
