Dylan MattinglyDylan Mattingly was born March 18, 1991 in Oakland,
California. He began playing cello at age 6, and to compose music at age 7.
He studies composition, theory, and notation with Katrina Wreede at Vlazville
Studios, Oakland, California, piano with LaDene Otsuki, and cello with Monica
Scott of the Del Sol Quartet.
Dylan's Bernardus Suite for string orchestra was performed by the Berkeley Youth
Orchestra (Berkeley, CA) under the direction of conductor / artistic director
Ann Krinitsky in March, 2002, and recorded on their CD "Musical Marvels,
Marvelous Music."
His Aubade (also for string orchestra) was premiered by the Young People's
Chamber Orchestra in Berkeley, CA on May 11, 2003, under the direction of Rem
Djemilev.
Dylan's other works include Theme & Variations for cello and two violins (2003);
Cello Duet (2002) and works for solo cello. He is currently writing a
stride-influenced rondo for solo piano.
Dylan's favorite composers include Bartók, Bernstein, Borodin, Dvorák,
Stravinsky, Kabalevsky, Holst, Copeland, and Shostakovich.
He loves math, is a pitcher in Little League baseball, paints landscapes in
watercolor and in oil, and plays keyboards in his school jazz band.
