Flutist Izumi Miyahara was born and raised in New York City. She is a graduate of LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts and the Juilliard School Pre-College Division. In the past year, she has been the first alternate in the National Flute Association’s Orchestral Excerpts/Masterclass competition, a semi-finalist in the Albuquerque Flute Association’s Frank Bowen Competition, second place winner of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music’s Undergraduate Baur Scholarship competition, and the first place winner of the Central Ohio Flute Association’s Young Artist competition. She has participated in masterclasses with Dr. Brad Garner, Alexa Still, Robert Aitken and Mindy Kaufmann. She has attended summer programs at the Interlochen Center for the Arts (2001 and 2002), the Kinhaven Music School in Weston, Vermont (2003 and 2004) and in Lucca, Italy (2005). She is currently a sophomore at the University of Cincinnati and studies with Dr. Brad Garner and Mr. Jack Wellbaum.
