Leonid SirotkinLeonid Sirotkin [oboe, English horn] is a native of St. Petersburg, Russia. He began his oboe studies at the age of seven and received his Bachelor of Music and Masters of Music degrees from St. Petersburg State Conservatory. During his freshman year at the Conservatory, Mr. Sirotkin won the position of principal English horn player with the renowned Kirov Opera Orchestra of Mariinsky Theatre under Valery Gergiev. For almost a decade, Mr. Sirotkin has toured internationally with the Kirov Orchestra and has performed at such famous venues as Carnegie hall, Metropolitan Opera, Avery Fisher Hall, Kennedy Center, Covent Garden, La Scala, and Concertgebouw among others.
Mr. Sirotkin is an active soloist and chamber musician. He has performed as a soloist with Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, Bogota Opera Orchestra of Theatro Colon, and Kuopio Symphony Orchestra. As a recitalist he has performed in the Great Philharmonic Hall and Chamber Philharmonic Hall in St. Petersburg, Russia. His chamber music festival appearances include Kuhmo International Chamber Music Festival in Finland, Kostamuksha Music Festival, Russia and Lucca Music Festival, Lucca, Italy as a chamber music faculty. As a chamber musician he collaborated with Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra musicians and the faculties of the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music.
Since 2002 Mr. Sirotkin became a regular substitute with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and has toured with the CSO to Japan in 2003 and Europe in 2004. Mr. Sirotkin has recorded more than 35 CDs with Kirov Orchestra and 5 Cds with Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestra.
In the year 2000, he published his book, "Orchestra Excerpts for oboe and English horn from operas and ballets by Tchaikovsky". He is currently working on his next book of Orchestral Excerpts for English Horn from Symphonic Repertory.
Currently, Mr. Sirotkin is a candidate for Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Cincinnati, College Conservatory of Music.
