New Horizons Music programs provide entry points to music-making for people over age 50, including those with no musical experience at all and adults who were active in school music programs, but have been inactive for a long period.
CCM Preparatory's New Horizons Orchestra offers ensemble instruction under the direction of experienced teacher BettyAnne Gottlieb.
Members of New Horizons Music programs participate in small group instruction and ensemble rehearsals, with the potential for chamber music and specialty music groups depending on the interests of the members. You’ll find music making is great for mental and social stimulation, physical fitness, releasing stress and stimulating your creativity.
The first New Horizons program was a band started by professor Roy Ernst at the Eastman School of Music in 1991 and supported by grants from the International Music Products Association and the National Association of Band Instrument Manufacturers. Word spread through articles in publications such as The New York Times and a feature spot on the Today Show. Since then, the program has grown to include bands, orchestras and other ensembles. Today there are more than 100 New Horizons Music programs in the United States and Canada with many more in the planning phase.
