Sandra Bosher Thornton, Cincinnati Children's Choir

Sandra Bosher Thornton

Sandra Bosher Thornton, a native of Syracuse, N.Y., received a bachelor’s of music degree in music education with a vocal concentration from the Crane School of Music at the State University of New York at Potsdam, studying voice with Mr. Floyd Calahan and conducting with Dr. Daniel Gordon, Dr. Timothy Topolewski and Dr. Rebecca Reames.

While at Crane, Sandra was the recipient of the Catherine A. English Award for Excellence in Student Teaching. She later earned her master’s of music in choral conducting at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, studying with Dr. Earl Rivers and Dr. Stephen Coker. While at CCM, Sandra served as assistant conductor of the Cincinnati Children’s Choir assisting with Bel Canto Choir and Director of Children’s and Youth Music at Crestview Presbyterian Church in West Chester, Ohio.

As a graduate student, Thornton performed in conducting master classes with Harry Christophers, Stephen Darlington and Dale Warland. She has taught at the middle- and high school level  in Texas, Louisiana. Choirs under her direction have received superior competition ratings at the American Classics Madrigal and Chamber Choir Festival in San Antonio, Texas and at the Louisiana Music Educators Association Large Ensemble Festival in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Sandra was also a guest conductor on the Syracuse Children’s Chorus’ 25th Anniversary Concert and the Montgomery County Choral Society’s 25th Anniversary Concert. She is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, Music Educators Association, and Ohio Music Educators Association.
