The Centered Performance Program

The Centered Performance Program at CCM Preparatory offers group and private instruction for students from all performance disciplines who wish to achieve artistic mastery free of physical and mental discomfort. Classes are taught by certified Alexander Technique teacher and professional performer Jennifer Roig-Francolí, and are for adults and teens of any skill level. 

The Centered Performance Program (CPP) lays the groundwork for skillful, soulful artistry by integrating a balanced mind and body with deliberate practice and joyfulness. Students apply the holistic principles of The Art of Freedom® and the Alexander Technique to develop superior mind-body coordination, undo excess muscular tension, manage pain, and overcome performance anxiety with ease. 

Classes are transformative for performers who… 

  • Experience physical pain or discomfort during practice or performance
  • Experience stress and excessive muscular tension 
  • Suffer from performance anxiety, negative thought patterns, and lack of confidence 
  • Feel frustrated by slowed progress or technical problems 
  • Have difficulty feeling and/or expressing depth of artistic emotion 
  • Crave a deep understanding of how to achieve effortless artistic mastery 

The Centered Performance Program Classes

The Centered Performer: How to Thrive Under Stress for Performance Success 

For ages 16-116
12-1:30 p.m. Saturday, with occasional “Easy-Access” classes online 
Instuctor: Jennifer Roig-Francoli
Tuition:  $65 per session/$975 per 15 week session

This class is open to students from all performance areas (age 16+): musicians, dancers, and actors of all skill levels are welcome. In this class, you will learn powerful mind-body coordination techniques to manage stress under any circumstances and how to release tension to improve your artistic skill. You will learn how to free yourself from negative habits of mind and body that sabotage your success, and how to save time and energy with mindful, deliberate practice. 

This is a structured class covering specific performance-related topics, which may be taken more than once. Occasional “Easy-Access” classes may be offered online instead of onsite at CCM. Learning materials and links will be provided. 

The Centered Musician™: Relax Under Stress and Play Your Best!

For teens, 14 and up
4-5 p.m. Sunday, with occasional “Easy-Access” classes online  
Instuctor: Jennifer Roig-Francoli
Location:  CCM, Mary Emery Hall Room
Tuition:  $58 per session/$870 per 15 week session

In this class, you will learn how to speed up your learning and save time in the practice room, how to relax your body while you play, and how to overcome pain, stress, and performance anxiety. 

This is a structured class which may be taken more than once. Occasional “Easy-Access” classes may be offered online instead of onsite at CCM. Learning materials and links will be provided. 

The Centered Musician™: Relax Under Stress and Play Your Best!

For adults
11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Wednesday, with occasional “Easy-Access” classes online  
Instuctor: Jennifer Roig-Francoli
Location: Clifton Cultural Arts Center 
Tuition:  $58 per session/$870 per 15 week session

In this class, you will learn how to speed up your learning and save time in the practice room, how to relax your body while you play, and how to overcome pain, stress, and performance anxiety. 

This is a structured class which may be taken more than once. Occasional “Easy-Access” classes may be offered online instead of onsite at CCM. Learning materials and links will be provided. 

The Centered Performance Program Private Lessons

For ages 16 and up
Instuctor: Jennifer Roig-Francoli
Tuition:  $105 per hour

Private lessons with Jennifer Roig-Francolí are 45 minutes. You will learn effective ways to improve your artistic skills free of stress and without compromising your physical and mental well-being. You will learn how to apply the principles of the Alexander Technique to daily practice and performance for greater joy and ease of expression, with a special emphasis on preventing and relieving pain, tension, stress, and performance anxiety. 

Lessons with Jennifer normally do not conflict with other lessons you may be taking from another teacher at the same time. Some “Easy-Access” lessons may be offered online instead of onsite at CCM. 

The Centered Performer Private Lessons: for performers of all kinds (dancers, actors, etc.) and all skill levels, from beginning amateurs to professionals and educators. 

The Centered Musician™ Private Lessons: for musicians of all kinds – instrumentalists, singers, conductors, composers, etc. 

The Centered Violinist™ Private Lessons: for violinists and violists. The Centered Violinist (TCV) lessons offer expert help with the unique challenges of violin/viola setup, asymmetrical posture, and technical skills improvement from a healthy mind-body perspective. Violinists only: Students will discover increased musical sensitivity and ease of self-expression through applying Alexander Technique principles to the standard classical violin repertoire if desired. TCV lessons may serve as your primary violin lessons or as a healthy complement to lessons taken with another violin teacher.

The Centered Performance Program Benefits 

  • 15 Weekly Classes or Lessons per semester. Private lessons are 45 minutes. Classes are 90 minutes. Some meetings will take place online instead of in person, as indicated above. Links and study materials provided. 
  • Free 8-Week online companion course included! All students registered for The Centered Performance Program will receive FREE access to the instructor’s online self-study course, “Effortless Music-Making! An Introduction to the Alexander Technique for Musicians” (EMM Course). This 8-week course, while not required, reinforces and enhances what is taught in the live classes, including the basic principles of the Alexander Technique. 
  • The EMM Course includes eight 90-minute pre-recorded class videos, bonus videos, written lessons, homework and worksheets. 
  • Private online community. The Centered Performance Program private Facebook group provides further opportunity for you to share practice and performance experiences with other program members, and to connect with the Instructor for continued learning and support between classes. 
  • “Easy-Access” online classes/lessons. All Centered Performance Program classes and lessons will include some “Easy-Access” live instruction online instead of in-person. This will allow you to attend class from your home or another location. We will be using Zoom, a simple conferencing software (like Skype but better!) which requires a stable internet connection and video/audio capability. Earbuds or headset are recommended for improved sound quality. The free download link will be provided. 
  • Video recordings. Video recordings of most classes and lessons will be made available to registered students. 
  • “Un-Performance” participation. All registered students will be invited to participate in our “Un-Performance”, a social musical event held at CCM towards the end of each semester. Friends and family are encouraged to attend.
