The following class descriptions and times are for the 2011-2012 school year. Class offerings, fees and times for the 2012-2013 school year will be announced in May, 2012.

Suzuki lessons are geared toward young beginning students ages 4-8. According to its founder, Shinichi Suzuki, young minds can learn music like a language when encouraged and supported by their parents. This method calls for parental involvement as note-takers at all lessons and practice partners at home. Parents learn basic flute playing to assist in the child’s learning process.  Students learn through listening, repetition and demonstration, just as children learn language. Parents should observe several lessons and a group lesson before beginning lessons with their child.  In addition, Dr. Suzuki’s book Nurtured by Love should be read before beginning lessons.

Required materials:

• Properly-sized flute (usually a Jupiter Prodigy 313S if student is 8 or younger -- to be discussed with teacher)
  
• Suzuki CD:   Flute Book 1/2
  
• A dedicated flute notebook, 3-ring preferred
  
• Nurtured by Love, book by Dr. Shinichi Suzuki
