Competitions and Festivals

CCM Preparatory offers students the opportunity to participate in competitions, both department-sponsored and community-based, that can provide financial assistance to students who need it.

The CCM Achievement Festival for music students is held each spring. This year's festival will take place all day on May 18, with a number of recitals, special events and fun. We encourage all our private music students to perform in recitals that day, when they are evaluated by the faculty in an open, encouraging atmosphere. All students who participate can then apply for the Gino James DiMario Memorial Scholarship and the Cincinnati Symphony Club Scholarship program. Participation in the festival is a requirement for students seeking financial aid for music lessons. Call 513-556-2595 for more information.

Each year CCM Prep can nominate up to 12 students for the annual Overture Competition, which awards up to $2,500 in scholarships.  Several CCM Prep students have won this prestigious competition. Students can audition in music, theatre or dance.

CCM Prep students also have participated in programs such as the Junior Music Experience piano program, Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition and the Blue Ash Symphony Competition. Information is available in the office and from your teacher.

Scholarships

The CCM Prep Department offers a number of scholarships to registered students (forms will be released during the school year):

  • The Gino James DiMario Memorial Scholarship is an endowed scholarship created in memory of Gino DiMario, a former CCM Prep piano student. Funds are given to students and activities that promote the joy of studying music. Each year CCM Prep holds a series of fundraising recitals for the scholarship fund, and a memorial student recital is scheduled each fall
  • The Cincinnati Symphony Club provides scholarship funds for outstanding students in the CCM Prep program. These students are selected by the Director.  Approximately $2,000 is awarded each year.
  • The Doan Scholarship is awarded to a Cincinnati Junior Strings member each year.  This is for a full tuition scholarship to the Cincinnati Junior Strings for one year.  It is awarded by the Director of the Orchestra in honor of the founder of CJS, Dr. Gerald Doan.
  • The Bryll Theatre Arts Scholarship is a tuition scholarship awarded to a theatre arts student.  This is a new scholarship in honor of Dee Anne Bryll, long-time head of the Theatre Arts program at CCM Prep.
  • The Corrine Patterson Ballet Scholarship is awarded to one ballet student in memory of former ballet student Corrine Patterson.
  • Merit Scholarships provide partial tuition assistance to talented theatre and dance students.  These are awarded by the Coordinators of the program.
