June 17 – 30, 2013: Il Barbiere di Siviglia
June 24 – July 6, 2013: La Cenerentola
Join us for a unique course, focusing exclusively on the challenging craft of opera. Up to 20 conductors and pianists, along with a carefully selected cast, will be invited to participate in this one-of-a-kind experience while in residence at University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
Working with an internationally renowned faculty, led by Mark Gibson, Director of Orchestral Studies at CCM, conductors and pianists will have daily Italian instruction, text and style sessions and conducting and coaching master classes. Students will also participate in staging rehearsals, work with singers and lead orchestra rehearsals. Advanced opera singers will have the opportunity to learn a role in its entirety, and work with renowned faculty and industry professionals, along with daily Italian classes and coachings. The course culminates in a semi-staged performance, with orchestra, of Il Barbiere di Siviglia and La Cenerentola.
Some things to note:
- Both operas will be performed without recitatives.
- In La Cenerentola, Clorinda and Alidoro arias will be included, and Tisbe will sing an aria in accordance with the “pocket aria” tradition.
- In Barbiere, Berta’s aria will be included.
*Faculty, costs and other aspects of the workshop are subject to change.
