Stirling received his BFA in Technical Theater from the University of Florida (1985) , and his MFA from the University of Missouri, Kansas City  (1997) in both Technical Direction and Lighting Design.  In his early career he was a dancing  parade character for Walt Disney World. Staying in the Theme Park world Stirling became a Production Stage Manager for “America on Ice” at Bush Gardens, Williamsburg, VA.    Stirling then served as the Staff Technical Director for the Department of  Theater  at Penn State University from  1988 to 1995.   In 2008 he  finished his Tenth season as the Technical Director at the TONY Award Winning Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park to move into academia as the Faculty Technical Director at the University of Cincinnati (UC), College-Conservatory of Music (CCM).   Stirling freelances with River City  Scenic in Cincinnati Ohio,  and consults on Cruise Ship theatrical automation and machinery.     Stirling has recently received his certification  as a Pneumatic Specialist by the International Fluid Power Society.  Stirling has served on the regional level of USITT (United State Institute of Theater Technology)  for 10 years.  He served two, two year appointments as a Director at Large for the Ohio Valley section of the institute.   He most recently stepped down from serving  three , 2 year terms as  Vice-Chair of Operations for the Ohio Valley Section of USITT.   He is also active on the national level  of USITT and is serving  as the Junior Co- Commissioner of Technical Production. Stirling  has received a Cincinnati Enquirer Acclaim Award, two Cincinnati Entertainment Awards and a Florida Player of the Year award, among others
 

 

 

Steve Miller
Resident Associate Technical Director
MFA, University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music

Steve returned CCM as ATD after having been away for 6 years working for River City Scenic, Inc. as a project manager for more than 60 cruise ship theater installations on Royal Caribbean, Princess and Radisson Cruise Lines.  He also managed installations for JB Speed Museum in Louisville, King’s Island, & Carowins Amusement Parks.  Rejoining the technical direction team here at CCM in 2006, some of Steve’s favorite CCM productions include The Pajama Game, The Full Monty, and La Boheme. 

Steve has worked with numerous other companies on various projects including Playhouse in the Park, The Cincinnati Opera, The Ensemble Theater of Cincinnati, The Dayton Opera, Sapsis Rigging, Inc., Hoffend &  Sons,  Smithall Electronics & I.A.T.S.E. Local 5.

 

 

Richard Palmer
Scene Shop Foreman
BFA, Northern Illinois Univerity

In addition to Scene Shop Foreman, Richard also freelances in the Cincinnati and Chicago area.  Some of his experience includes Staff Carpenter for Hartford Stage Company, ATD for Des Moines Metro Opera, and Event Rigger for the Northern Illinois Convocation Center.   He has also done extensive freelance work for many companies including, but not limited to, the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, The Chicago Lyric Opera, and The Chicago Ballet.  Current projects include the Talking Tigers Exhibit for the Cincinnati Zoo, and working towards a M.F.A. in Technical Production from the University of Cincinnati – CCM.
