THE CCM MUSICAL THEATRE YOUNG ALUMNI AWARD

THE CCM MUSICAL THEATRE Young Alumni Award is presented each year at a performance of the Senior Showcase in Cincinnati sponsored by the Friends of CCM. This award is given in recognition of excellence in Musical Theatre or a related field by an alum of the Musical Theatre program at CCM in the past two decades. This year the award was presented to Betsy Wolfe (Class of 2004).

Betsy Wolfe

Betsy made her Broadway debut in 110 in the Shade and subsequently appeared in Everyday Rapture, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Bullets Over Broadway and Falsettos. She also appeared in the off-Broadway revival of The Last Five Years and the City Center Encores! presentation of Merrily We Roll Along. In San Francisco, she was seen as Mary Ann Singleton in the world premiere of the musical Tales of the City.

Betsy is next set to enter the pie-filled world of Waitress on Broadway. She will fill the role of Jenna beginning June 13, taking over for the show’s creator, Sara Bareilles. Waitress is based on the 2007 film of the same name and tells the story of a diner waitress who, through her passion for baking, an unexpected pregnancy and a tryst with a doctor, learns to escape her abusive marriage.

Betsy has been seen in concert with symphony orchestras across the nation. In Cincinnati, she was last seen as Marian the Librarian in a concert version of The Music Man for the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra.

Winners of the CCM Musical Theatre Young Alumni Award are Sam Samuelson (2006), Ashley Brown (2007), Sharon Wheatly (2008), Lauren Kennedy (2009), Scott Coulter (2010), Leslie Kritzer (2011), Sara Gettelfinger (2012), Aaron Lazar (2013), Eric Sciotto and Kirsten Wyatt (2014), Mickey Fisher (2015), Lisa Howard (2016) and Betsy Wolfe (2017).

"I am one of the many applicants who auditioned for CCM's Musical Theater program in Chicago. I am writing to thank you for making the experience so smooth and enjoyable. I particularly appreciated the 'briefing session' before the dance audition. This put the audition in context and gave me the chance to 'meet' the musical theater faculty in person. The dance audition, which I was dreading, was truly fun. I can now see why your program is so selective. Yet, if I were one of the chosen few, I would put myself wholeheartedly into the training."
