After graduation I spent just under 3 years as the Graphic Arts & Multimedia Director at a medium sized church on the east side of Cincinnati. From then moving to a small marketing agency where I worked on graphic design, web development, and video projects for clients including Honeywell, Motorola, Citizen and more. Upon leaving the marketing agency I began working as web developer at Nurtur Holdings, a holding company for the Aveda Institutes Columbus, Chapel Hill and Los Angeles, as well as three Aveda salons in Columbus, OH. Within one year I was promoted to Marketing Manager for Student Recruitment and have gone on to earn two Modern Salon Magazine Excellence In Education Award nominations for Marketing Innovation in 2012 and 2013 (still waiting on 2014 nominations!).
Alongside of my traditional professional career I have pursued a number of freelance opportunities, mostly in the fields of photography and writing. As a photographer I've been able to use the principles learned during my time in E-Media Division as a foundation for building my skills and starting two companies, Brian Bruemmer Photography, and Rubato Music & Event Photography. While I have dabbled in traditional portraiture and weddings, my passion lies in concert photography. Since July of 2012 I have had the privilege to photograph all over the Midwest and shoot over 370 bands, including The Flaming Lips, Alison Krauss, BB King, Arcade Fire, The National, The Eagles, Willie Nelson and more (a full list available here: http://www.rubatophoto.com/bands/). Those 370+ bands have a total of 273 Grammy Award Nominations, 112 of which were wins. I have been honored as an exhibitor for a number of photography shows, including Final Friday at The Emery Theater, and Reverberatio n: Capturing The Live Music Experience (curated by Fotofocus).
Lastly I've been a contributing writer for a number of websites including SlyVinyl.com, Cincymusic.com, and UnsungMelody.com. My contributions range from interviews to reviews to album write-ups and anything in between. It's been a strange and windy journey so far and I can't wait to see where it leads next!
