Tuition Assistance and Work-Study Programs

We believe that active participation and study in the arts should be available to all individuals of all ages and abilities. Our tuition assistance programs provide limited financial assistance to students who might not otherwise afford the full cost of tuition.

Limited tuition assistance is available for the academic year only. Tuition assistance normally is not available for summer programs. Assistance is primarily based on financial need, though consideration is given to students who have demonstrated a commitment to the goals and objectives of CCM Preparatory and Community Engagement.

Tuition assistance applications are now available. All information will be kept confidential. A complete copy of your most recent tax return is required and must be included with your application. If this is unattainable, another record of income must be substituted.  It is the responsibility of the student to obtain a written recommendation from their teacher, which must be submitted to the office as part of the application.

Review of applications for 2019-2020 will begin August 15, 2019. Applications are reviewed by the Tuition Assistance Committee on a rolling basis after the published deadline date and while funds remain.

  • All financial assistance is awarded at the discretion of the Tuition Assistance Committee and the Assistant Dean.
  • Applying for tuition assistance does not automatically guarantee financial assistance.
  • Tuition assistance is awarded for the academic year.
  • In order to assist as many students as possible, the majority of awards will be for 50% or less of the tuition. Awards include a waiver of all fees such as the annual registration and payment plan fees. Additional group costs, etc., are usually not covered under this program.
  • All awards are reviewed at the middle of the academic year, typically in January. If a student fails to attend lessons or classes, the award may be revoked. If a teacher feels that the student is not applying him/her self to his/her studies, the tuition assistance may be discontinued.
  • Priority is given to current students in CCM Preparatory and Community Engagement though new students may apply who exhibit both commitment and financial need and have a recommendation from a teacher outside CCM.
  • All students in 9th grade or age 15 and above are required to complete a work-study assignment as part of their tuition assistance package. For younger students, parents may contribute to the work-study effort.
  • If an account falls behind financially, assistance may be discontinued, and in such cases full tuition and fees will be assessed.
  • Students who do not complete the year or withdraw without cause, may be required to relinquish the assistance and full tuition and fees will be assessed.

All students who are in at least 9th grade or 15 years old will be expected to participate in a work-study assignment as part of their tuition assistance award. The complexity and hours required will be based on the financial award.  Students and families may volunteer to provide assistance without applying for or receiving tuition assistance, though an application form must be completed and submitted.

Work assignments may include:

  • Office assistant: helping with simple office tasks
  • Class assistant: assisting a Prep teacher with a group class in drama, music, ballet, or special learners
  • Saturday assistant: varied responsibilities
  • Summer camp: assisting with camps as an apprentice
  • Distributing CCM Preparatory material around town
  • Recital/festival/competition assistant: helping with special events in the department

Depending on a student’s ability and interest along with the department’s needs, additional assignments may be developed.
