CCM’s Choral Studies Program is internationally recognized for more than 50 years of excellence in training conductors and singers for successful, lifelong careers in the choral arts. Our choral ensembles are proud to offer transformative musical experiences for singers and audiences through performances ranging from acclaimed staged productions to presentations of contemporary works.
Cincinnati Youth Choir is the Queen City’s premier youth choral ensemble program, in-residence at University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music. Through CCM’s Prep department, CYC’s educationally-based organization oversees a portfolio of:
Cincinnati Youth Choir’s learning environments are explorative, supportive, and fun. Our resident and in-school choirs have engaged thousands of Cincinnati youth through musicianship and vocal development and outstanding artistry. Inspired by the innovative El Sistema model, CYC also manages the city’s Cincinnati Choral Academy, a free after-school program serving over 200 CPS students, in collaboration with Cincinnati May Festival and Vocal Arts Ensemble (VAE), operating within a “participatory environment in which students and teachers learn and lead, together.”
Over the past 30 years, CYC singers have formed lasting relationships with children outside their communities & developed a lifelong appreciation of choral music. Boasting an impressive international reputation, CYC singers have toured globally in Italy, Japan, China, Scandinavia, The United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, and Canada. CYC also holds the title of Gold Medal Youth Choir in 2012’s World Choir Games.
John DeFerraro and Lauren Church, conductors
The Greater Scott County Chamber Choir is an auditioned choral ensemble from the combined forces of Scott County High School and Great Crossing High School. This ensemble began in 2019 after a school split to accommodate a growing community, and the students and directors wanted to continue joining in song to inspire their community. The Greater Scott County Chamber Choir regularly performs for Georgetown and Lexington communities, and contains alumni of the Kentucky Governor’s School for the Arts, as well as participants in KMEA All-State Ensembles and other regional honor choirs.
Amy Thompson, conductor
The Oak Hills Varsity Singers is one of four choirs at Oak Hills HS. They are an auditioned mixed ensemble made up of upperclassmen. They carol throughout Western Hills during the holidays and perform at other community events during the year. They have performed in Walt Disney World and at Kings Island, and this March will be performing in Chicago.
Greg Miller, conductor
The Cincinnati Country Day Upper School Nighthawk Choir is a non-auditioned ensemble comprised of students in grades 9-12. The ensemble serves as musical ambassador of the school and regularly performs at community and institutional events. Since the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year, the Nighthawk Choir has doubled in membership each year, and excitement for the choral art is mirrored in the Middle and Lower Schools, with enrollment in choral classes increasing by 25% each of the last two school years and the establishment of a new audition-only Middle School vocal ensemble. The CCDS Choral Department serves students in grades 5-12 and provides instruction in vocal technique and music literacy while providing students with high-level performance opportunities. The Cincinnati Country Day School is a private, college preparatory school that teaches students from early childhood (18 months) to grade 12, and is located in Indian Hill. The CCDS Choral Department is grateful to Dr. Joe Miller, Dr. Brett Scott, and the CCM Choral Studies Department for their generous invitation to be a part of this year’s Feast of Carols.
Stephanie Nash, conductor
The Northern Kentucky Community Chorus, founded in 1980, is a non-auditioned choir and has become a vibrant intergenerational ensemble ranging in age from late 20s to early 90s. Our chorus values lifelong learning, continuously honing our vocal skills and embracing physical well-being. We present two or three concerts each season plus two Come & Sing one-day events, enriching the arts in our community and fostering a love for choral music by performing treasured masterworks as well as pieces from living composers. Rehearsing in Lakeside Park, KY, we draw talented singers from Kenton, Boone, Campbell, and Hamilton counties. We invite you to join us in celebrating the power of music to connect and uplift our community. For more information: nkychorus.org
It was no coincidence that, in 2012, Cincinnati was chosen as the first American city to host the World Choir Games
