Album by CCM faculty featured in the New York Times

Four CCM faculty members were recently highlighted in a New York Times roundup of notable new classical music albums. Entitled "5 Classical Music Albums You Can Listen to Right Now," the article spotlights the new album of Beethoven's string quartets performed by the Ariel Quartet, which has served as CCM's string quartet-in-residence since 2012. The ensemble is comprised of four CCM faculty members: Alexandra “Sasha” Kazovsky, violin; Amit Even-Tov, cello; Gershon Gerchikov, violin; and Jan Grüning, viola.

CCM Chamber Choir celebrates composer Eriks Ešenvalds in April...

UC College-Conservatory of Music celebrates the last day of classes for the spring semester with an inspiring CCM Wind Symphony performance — featuring faculty artist Dror Biran on piano. The "Hope Springs Eternal" concert also welcomes guest ensemble the Walnut Hills High School Wind Ensemble. Presented at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 25, tickets for the performance are on sale now through the CCM Box Office.

CCM welcomes Tyler Ehrlich as Assistant Director of Wind Studies

UC College-Conservatory of Music Dean Pete Jutras has announced the appointment of Tyler Ehrlich, DMA, as CCM's new Assistant Professor and Assistant Director of Wind Studies. In this role, which begins on Aug. 15, Ehrlich will conduct the CCM Wind Ensemble, oversee CCM’s doctoral cognate in wind conducting and teach conducting, literature and music education courses.

'HAIR' '60s rock musical on stage at CCM April 24-27

CCM welcomes new music theory faculty member Nathaniel Mitchell

UC College-Conservatory of Music Dean Pete Jutras has announced the appointment of Nathaniel Mitchell, PhD, as CCM's new Assistant Professor of Music Theory. His faculty appointment officially begins on Aug. 15, 2025. Mitchell is a music theorist whose research investigates the cognitive, cultural and structural dimensions of musical creativity in genres ranging from eighteenth-century opera to bluegrass and video games.

CCM alumnus Michael Canu shares experience as Romeo in '& Juliet'

The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) celebrates alumnus Michael Canu (BFA Musical Theatre, '20), who stars as Romeo in the national tour of "& Juliet." Canu was recently featured on Local 12 News, where he shared his experience with the groundbreaking production and what it means to perform in his hometown.

CCM Philharmonia performs concert of French composers on April 17

Travel the world with the CCM Steel Drum Band in April 12 concert

The CCM Steel Drum Band and Afro-Carribbean Music Ensemble present a joint concert, World Music, on Saturday, April 12 at 7:30 p.m. in Corbett Auditorium. President Pinto announces interim provost

UC President Neville Pinto announced that Dr. John Weidner, dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Science, will step in as interim provost following Dr. Kristi Nelson's departure on June 1.

Watch selections from the CCM Philharmonia's Feb. 19 concert

The CCM Philharmonia student orchestra continued its 2024-25 concert season on Feb. 19, performing works inspired by the natural wonders and legends of Northern Europe and Russia. Dubbed "Northern Lights," the eclectic program included concertos by composers Alexander Scriabin and Sergei Prokofiev, giving student soloists a chance to shine. The concert concluded with a rarely-heard pairing of two stunning works by Finnish master Jean Sibelius. Selections from that concert are now available for on-demand viewing.

CCM Opera presents gripping chamber opera 'Dark Sisters'

CCM Opera concludes its 2024-25 season with Nico Muhly’s Dark Sisters, a harrowing journey of repression and self-discovery. Inspired by real events, the story follows one woman’s attempt to change the course of her life and escape the FLDS Church (Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints), a polygamous sect that split from the mainstream Mormon Church more than a century ago. The opera runs April 3-5 in Cohen Family Studio Theater. Tickets are on sale now through the CCM Box Office.

CCM Composition Professor awarded 2025 Wachtmeister Award

March 25, 2025

The UC College-Conservatory of Music congratulates Douglas Knehans, Professor of Composition, who was recently named the recipient of the 2025 Wachtmeister Award. Awarded every two years by the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (VCCA), the prize includes a 30 day residency at Mt. San Angelo in the foothills of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, as well as a $1,000 honorarium and a travel stipend.
