Frequently Asked Questions
"CCM" is commonly-used shorthand for our college's full formal name: the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
The enduring popularity of "CCM" as shorthand for our college's name rather than "UC CCM" is due to the fact that our college existed as a private institution for nearly a century before becoming a part of the University of Cincinnati in 1962. Learn more about the history of our name.
Two separate institutions—the College of Music of Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music—merged in August 1955 to become the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. On August 1, 1962 the College-Conservatory of Music became the 14th college at the University of Cincinnati.
