From advanced performers to novices looking to explore jazz in a group setting, CCM Prep offers an outstanding and unique experience! Our one-of-a-kind program teaches jazz musicians at all levels and most ages, from beginner to professional. CCM Prep Jazz Ensembles offer access to CCM faculty and state-of-the-art facilities.


Audition details

CCM Youth Jazz Orchestra (CYJO) and High School Jazz Combo

Sunday, September 6, 2026 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. (10-minute audition slots). If slots fill up, more will be added. Students who cannot attend the audition should complete this form and will have an opportunity to submit a video of the prepared audition materials by Sept. 6. 

Adult Jazz Orchestra and Combo

Interview and/or audition may be required for new students by contacting Eric Lechliter

Junior CCM Youth Jazz Orchestra (Jr. CYJO)

Learn jazz the way the masters did! Junior CCM Youth Jazz Orchestra (Jr. CYJO) puts the focus on ensemble jazz playing, and teaches jazz improvisation with an emphasis on learning by ear and group interaction. No jazz experience is necessary, and the ensemble is a great place for both beginning improvisers, and more advanced players looking to grow their ears and deepen their melodic instincts and knowledge of jazz style.

Suggested Ages: 11-15

Pre-req: 1-2 years experience in a band setting

Audition Process: this program is not auditioned, so when registration is open, feel free to enroll!

CCM Prep Jazz Ensembles are committed to maintaining the highest standards of musical excellence. The Ensembles function to:

  • Provide members with exclusive educational experiences that prepare them for college and career and contribute to the knowledge, technique and skills necessary for advanced artistic performance
  • Provide performance opportunities at CCM’s state-of-the-art facilities that allow for creativity and self-expression and give audiences a means to experience innovative and exciting performances of high-quality, diverse repertoire

  • Provide members with a source of lifelong personal growth via opportunities to assess their skills and strengths, reflect on their achievements and progress, and prioritize their areas for improvement
