Choral Ensemble Audition Information
Below are details and other pertinent information outlining the Choral Ensemble Audition. Please read carefully and thoroughly.
Audition Guidelines
- Fill out this quick, easy audition form online at https://forms.office.com/r/fuXkmT671q by Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at 5 p.m.
- Choral Ensemble Auditions will take place in Corbett Auditorium.
- Your audition will be in three (3) sections: (see below for additional information)
- Prepared Piece - Perform 1-2 minutes of a prepared selection (preferably memorized) that demonstrates your musicianship. This can be an art song, aria, or folk song/hymn. A faculty selected accompanist will be provided for your audition. Please bring a copy of your music with your tempi and cuts clearly marked (if applicable). You are also welcome to provide your own accompanist for the audition.
- Sight-Reading - You will be given a short example to sight sing. Take one minute to look at the line before singing. Solfege, numbers, or a single vowel are all acceptable methods. Keep a steady tempo and try not to stop once you have begun singing the example.
- Tonal Memory - A series of pitches will be played on the piano. You will then be asked to immediately sing them back after the first hearing. There will be several examples.
- Remember that you should be appropriately dressed for your audition.
- Arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled audition time.
- If you are chosen for a callback for the CCM Chamber Choir, you will be sent an email by 3:00pm on Friday, August 23, 2024. Chamber Choir callbacks will occur on Friday, August 23, 2024 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Corbett Auditorium.

Descriptions of the Choral Ensembles
CCM Chamber Choir
Joe Miller, conductor
MWF: 2:30 p.m. – 3:50 p.m. in DVAC 300
The CCM Chamber Choir is an elite mixed-voice chamber ensemble under the direction of Dr. Joe Miller. The choir has set a standard of excellence through diverse programming and inspiring artistry. Composed of undergraduate and graduate students, the Chamber Choir performs a wide variety of repertoire from historical to multicultural perspectives. The Chamber Choir has performed before regional and national conventions of ACDA, Chorus America’s Masterclass for Choral and Orchestral Conductors, the NCCO national conference, and the American Musicological Society.
CCM Chorale
Brett Scott, conductor
MWF: 2:30 p.m. – 3:50 p.m. in DVAC 100
CCM Chorale is a large mixed-voice choral ensemble under the direction of Dr. Brett Scott. This diverse ensemble includes students from a great variety of fields of study within CCM and is also open to qualified students from the greater UC population. Chorale has performed at numerous American Choral Directors Association conferences, has been featured as a guest artist with several Cincinnati musical organizations, and has an active performing and recording schedule.
CCM Chamber Singers
MWF: 12:20 p.m. – 1:45 p.m. in DVAC 100
The CCM Chamber Singers is a mixed-voice chorus of music majors conducted exclusively by conducting MM and DMA choral majors, under the mentorship of the choral faculty. MM and DMA choral conducting majors gain professional conducting training through rehearsals and performances. The ensemble performs a varied repertoire of a cappella, accompanied, and chamber works from all musical style periods.
CCM Vox Antiqua
Location and Time: TBD
CCM Vox Antiqua is a select vocal/instrumental ensemble dedicated to the performance of Medieval, Renaissance, and Early Baroque music. This is a new group at CCM. During the 2021-22 academic year, CCM Vox Antiqua prepared several short concert programs, and, on occasion, performed the repertory in liturgical contexts, such as the service of Sunday Compline with Renaissance polyphony and chant.
UC Choruses
Alta Petit (Treble) – ENSM 1050 Section 001
Juncta Juvant (Tenor/Bass) – ENSM 1050 Section 002 TR: 2:30 p.m. – 3:50 p.m. in DVAC 100 and DVAC 300
The University of Cincinnati Alta Petit and Juncta Juvant Choruses and Cabaret Singers are comprised of students from the University of Cincinnati’s fourteen component colleges of over 43,000 students. Having celebrated its 100th anniversary during the 2019-2020 academic year, the UC Choruses is one of the oldest organizations on campus, led by graduate choral conducting students and operated by a student-elected board. The UC Choruses perform a diverse repertoire of a cappella, accompanied, folk, spirituals and world music. They present major fall and spring concerts each semester on campus, perform off-campus, appear on CCM’s Feast of Carols, make an annual spring tour, and present major choral-orchestral works.
Cabaret Singers
MWF: 4:40 p.m. - 5:50 p.m. in DVAC 100
UC Cabaret Singers is an auditioned mixed-voice choral ensemble made up of members from UC Alta Petit and Juncta Juvant Choruses. Students must be enrolled in Alta Petit or Juncta Juvant in order to participate in UC Cabaret Singers.

Choral Ensemble Auditions are an essential element to your success at CCM. They take place at the beginning of each school year and are required of all students interested in being in an ensemble. Auditions are used to determine voicing and ensemble placement.

Requirements

- If you would like to practice, please use a hymnal or basic music text and practice singing individual lines without the aid of a piano. You may also find resources online.

Choral Ensemble Auditions will take place in Corbett Auditorium during Welcome Week (the week before classes start). It is extremely important to honor your audition time. Missing your appointment may forfeit your opportunity to participate in an ensemble. Without prior notice and approval, there will be no exceptions or allowances made if you are not present for your scheduled audition.
All students will be emailed their audition date and time by a CCM Choral Studies Division Representative.
